Bereishit Inspired Desserts

A friend of mine made these yummy desserts to help her kids get a "taste" of the creation story:

Black and white cookies for creation of day/night or light/dark

Yellow cupcakes for creation of the sun

Creation of the moon cupcakes

Creation of the stars cupcakes using edible star glitter.

I'd love to hear/see how others are teaching this week's parasha. Please comment below:

Parashat Bereshit and 6 days of creation

We are starting to read Sefer Bereshit this week. Really exciting since there are so many amazing lessons and accounts to teach our kids from this part of the Torah.

We introduced our girls to the 6 days of creation with the following craft/project:

A Jewish Homeschool Blog had some great ideas for ways to reuse the tops of Costco's baby wipes packs.

I have been saving these tops for a while just waiting for a good use for them and here it is:

I painted 6 lids with chalkboard paint making them reusable for different projects.
I numbered the lids with the days of creation and glued them over these images I found.

If I had more time, I would have tried to re-size the images to fit neatly under the lids, but you get the picture.
Still a fun activity to help the kiddos learn what Hashem created on each day.

Elmo Birthday Party

More Birthday Party Themes:
ELMO!!!
Elmo birthday banner was made made with construction paper, letters printed and traced onto alternating colors, ribbon, and printed Elmo pictures. Back right corner is a glass bowl of cheese whale crackers for Elmo's friend Dorothy the goldfish (Goldfish crackers aren't kosher).

Fruit platter to look like Elmo.

Here are the instructions for Elmo cake pops. Pretzel sticks were covered in red or white candy melts, rolled in red sugar, with Elmo candy face on top.

Elmo loves his ABC's

Bottom of cake is white Costco sheet cake. Elmo cake made with this cake mold which comes with instructions. FYI: If you're looking to create anything that needs a true red go with Americolor and wait a few hours after adding it to frosting to let color set. Other red food coloring comes out more pink than red.

My husband was a great sport and dressed up in this Elmo costume we got off Ebay. It was a fun surprise for our guests!

Elmo Doctor Set Centerpiece. Elmo coloring pages printed offline and made word searches with Sesame Street related words.

Elmo Airwalk Balloon was totally worth it and a hit with the kids. I made Elmo blocks by covering boxes with white computer paper and decorating with construction paper letters and borders. Elmo towels were given as prizes.

Sesame Street Hop Scotch was borrowed from a friend.

Pin the nose on Elmo

Winter Wonderland 1st Birthday Party

I thought I would share some pics from past birthday parties I have thrown for my girls.
Winter "One-derland" was a fun winter theme.
Desert Table

Here are some more pics with instructions to help recreate a Winter Wonderland theme:

Used this fondant mat set to decorate snowflake cookies

Used snow flake lollipop molds with pink and white Wilton Candy Melts and marshmallows as "snow" fillers. Tin from Target's Dollar section.

Bottom of cake is a white Costco sheet cake. Instructions for Igloo Cake.

Mini cupcakes with piped white frosting and Wilton Sugar Pearls.

Instructions for Snowmen Milkmen

This was a centerpiece from a friend's wedding. I glued black and white pictures from each month of my baby's first year onto white paper doilies and hung.

Covered fireplace with faux snow, ornaments, and lights- All from Michael's craft store.

To make snowflake birthday banner, I  used this snowflake font and glued the letters to 12 inch silver and white paper doilies. Under the banner is a penguin I made for "pin the fish in the penguin's mouth game".  Igloo play tent was made by drawing "ice blocks" on an old flat sheet and sewing it to a play tent we had. Penguin pillow pet was set up inside Igloo tent.

Instructions for Hot Cocoa Cones parting gifts.
